Sir David Amess, a Conservative MP, was stabbed multiple times and killed in Leigh-on-Sea in Essex on Friday. The Metropolitan Police has stated that there might be a potential link to Islamist extremism. A 25-year-old British national has been arrested at the scene, and the police are not searching for other assailants.
Sir David Amess was married. He had five children. He was loved by other Members of Parliament, no matter their political affiliation. Prime Minister Boris Johnson has described his as “one of the kindest, nicest, most gentle people in politics”.
He is the second Member of Parliament to be murdered in the past 5 years, following the murder of Jo Cox in 2016, a Labor Party MP.
